A central committee meeting of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) was held at the party headquarters in the city’s Bangabandhu Avenue on Friday. Information Minister and party President Hasanul Haq Inu was present as the chief guest. While speaking Inu said a legal framework was necessary to bring the patrons of militancy within the purview of law. He said his party had decided to launch a three-month campaign for enactment of the law. “By donning a ‘democratic hat’ Khaleda does not qualify as a democrat, rather her sponsorship and apologies for militancy was reason enough to disqualify her from the democratic club and also for prosecution,” he said. The programme was also addressed, among others, by JSD General Secretary Shirin Akhter, MP, its Executive President Advocate Rabiul Alma, Vice-President and also former Vice-Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University Prof Anwar Hossain. Inu presided over the event.

An orientation on producer groups’ registration was held yesterday at the training centre of an NGO at Nashratpur area in Gaibandha. Social Development Foundation (SDF), a non-government organisation arranged the function. In the programme the speakers underscored the need for bringing the producer groups under the cooperative registration to make the village organisations sustainable to lead the country towards desired development.”An emphasis should also be given to take pragmatic step to make the registration process of the cooperative department easier considering the greater interest of the organisations at grass root level”, they opined. They said a legal entity with certain powers to act on its own and certain responsibility is created by registering a cooperative side by side with enhancing easy access to needed services. The event was addressed, among others, by district cooperative officer Abdul Bari Shah, team leader of the SDF Golam Mostafa and regional manager (Livelihood) M. Hasanuzzaman. Acting district manager M. Shariful Azad presided over the function.
