Green University of Bangladesh
Green University of Bangladesh (GUB) has organized a Club Fair 2016 yesterday to encourage the newly admitted students in co-curricular activities. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir inaugurated the Club Fair on the university campus at 10 AM while renowned Film Director Mr. Zakir Hossain Razu, Actor Arefin Shuvo, Actress Tanha, Former Captain of Bangladesh National Football Team Sheikh Md. Aslam, Khorshid Alam Babu and former National Team footballer Nasir present as special guests. The clubs like Business Club, Marketing Club, Debating Club, FTDM Club, Textile Club, EEE Club, Law Club, Cultural Club, Sports Club, Social Bonding Club, English Club, Green Warrior Club, Reading Society, Photography Club, Theater Club, Blood Club and Computer Club etc help students gain practical experience with their subjects of study or interests. In total, there are seventeen clubs in Green University. Each club works and mobilizes students for different aspects. University Treasurer and Director of the Student Affairs, Md. Shahid Ullah along with Assistant Directors Dr. Afzal Hossain Khan and Abdul Malek acted as key persons to organize the club fair. Registrar Lt. General Md. Mainul Islam (LPR), chairpersons of different departments, Controller of Examinations, Director of Accounts and Finance, faculty members, officials and a large number of students were present on the occasion, says a press release.
Bangladesh Employers Federation (BEF)
Some 800,000 ready-made garment workers across Bangladesh are set to benefit from an occupational safety and health training programme launched today in Dhaka, says a press release. Entitled the Essentials of Occupational Safety and Health (EOSH), the course is an innovative training package developed by the International Labour Organisation’s International Training Centre in Turin. The training is being provided ed by the Bangladesh Employers Federation (BEF) with the support of the ILO with funding from Canada, the Netherlands and United Kingdom. The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) are also supporting the training. The launch marks the third phase of an initiative that has seen a core group of 114 master trainers from BEF, BGMEA, BKMEA and RMG factories train 8,038 RMG managers and supervisors in occupational safety and health. In the latest phase, this group will now go on and build awareness of key OSH issues amongst 800,000 workers in 585 factories by June 2017. Mujibul Haque Chunnu, State Minister for The Ministry of Labour and Employment said, “Safety in the workplace is major priority for the Government of Bangladesh. This training will contribute greatly to that goal as both workers and employers will benefit from improved safety practices.”The training for workers covers seven priority areas for the RMG sector namely: fire safety; electrical safety; trips, slips, falls and good housekeeping; dangerous substances; ergonomics; personal protective equipment and first aid. Mr. Golam Mainuddin Vice President, Bangladesh Employers’ Federation said, “A safe work environment is a priority issue for the Bangladesh Employers’ Federation. All parties should work together to implement occupational safety and health measures at the work place in accordance with the related laws and provisions of the country.” Also taking part in the launch were H. E. Mr. Benoit-Pierre Larmee High Commissioner, High Commission of Canada; Siddiqur Rahman, President of BGMEA, Mr Mansoor Ahmed 2nd Vice President BKMEA and Mr. Abdul Mukit Khan, representing the National Coordination Committee for Worker’s Education.
