A discussion marking ‘World Teachers’ Day’ organised by pro-liberation war teachers’ council Swadhinata Shikshak Parishad was held at the Jatiya Press Club on Wednesday. Awami League Publicity and Publication Affairs Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud was present as the chief guest. While speaking he termed the protesters against the Rampal Power Plant as not science-oriented and said they (protesters) are passing comments ‘relying on astrology’.”The project of Rampal Power Plant is being implemented scientifically. But the protesters are bypassing the scientific basis,” he told. Hasan said the world’s largest mangrove forest the Sundarbans was being treated as the World Heritage Site under the initiative of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The event was addressed, among others, by Directorate Secondary and Higher Education Director General Prof SM Wahiduzzaman and Awami League Central Working Committee member Sujit Roy Nandi. General Secretary of the organisation Shahjahan Alam presided over the event.
Bangladesh Probin Hitoishi Sangha
A discussion in observance of the International Day of Elderly People-2016 organised by Bangladesh Probin Hitoishi Sangha (BPHS), Panchagarh district unit in association with district administration was held recently at the Circuit House of the district. In the programme the speakers said elderly people contributed their maximum in earning independence through the War of Liberation and the grateful nation should do everything for their peaceful living and relieving them of helplessness. Narrating the problems, including carelessness, uncertainly and negligence being faced by the elderly citizens at many families and in the society, they suggested for ensuring adequate supports for their welfare. They urged all to take proper care with heartfelt affection and show due respect to the elderly people. Deputy Commissioner of Panchagarh Amal Krishna Mandal attended the discussion as the chief guest with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mahmudul Alam in the chair. The event was addressed, among others, by Panchagarh Zila Parisahd Administrator Abu Bakar Siddique, District Muktijoddha Commander Mirja Abul Kalam Dulal and Vice-President of district unit of BPHS Abdul Mazid Babul.
