Moulik Bangla
A rally organised by Moulik Bangla, a socio-cultural organisation was held in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the city on Thursday. In the programme the speakers demanded of the government to cancel the Rampal Power Plant Project agreement immediately. They called upon all to be united against this suicidal project to save the Sundarbans, the biggest mangrove. The speakers also warned to forge greater movement if their demand is not met.

The eleventh conference of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Rangpur district unit was held on the Public Library ground in Rangpur on Thursday. Leaders of the party called upon the common people irrespective of caste, creed and religion for resisting militancy, terrorism and politics in the name of religion. They put importance on reviving four fundamental principles of Nationalism, Socialism, Democracy and Secularism of the Constitution for materialising the hopes and aspirations of the common people as dreamt by them during the War of Liberation in 1971. A huge colourful rally participated by the leaders and activists of CPB and its associate organisations paraded the city streets carrying red flags, banners and festoons before the conference. The programme was addressed, among others, by economist and professor of the Department of Economics of Dhaka University Dr M. M. Akash. noted educationist Dr Swashswato Bhattacharya, CPB leaders Comrade Shahin Rahman and Hasna Hena Chowdhury. President of the organisation and valiant freedom fighter Comrade Shahadat Hossain presided over the function.
