Bangladesh National Alliance
Chairman of Bangladesh National Alliance (BNA) and Trinamool BNP Barrister Nazmul Huda in a statement on Friday said the question to participate in the national polls under any unelected government does not arise, as it would be contradictory to the constitution. He said this in the wake of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s demand for holding the national polls under a caretaker government or a neutral government. Huda said, “In accordance with the constitutional provision, the ruling elected government should discharge the duties of holding of the national polls through an independent and neutral Election Commission to be constituted by national consensus before the expiry of its (government) tenure.” “The present government should play the role of the neutral government for the purpose,” the BNA Chairman said adding that they (government) should remain accountable to the nation if they fail to discharge the duties in this regard as enshrined in the constitution. Huda said that BNA would not accept, in any way, any whimsical decision of the government conceding the demand of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
