Garments Sramik Trade Union Kendra
A rally organised by Garments Sramik Trade Union Kendra was held in front of the Jatiya Press Club on Sunday. In the rally the speakers demanded exemplary punishment to those involved in the killing of employees in a devastating fire in a packaging factory at Tongi BSCIC Industrial Estate in Gazipur. They also demanded adequate compensation to the victims of the said fire incident. The speakers urged the authority concerned to ensure safer workplaces fo the employees. They also called upon all employees to be united to meet their demands. The rally was addressed, among others, by President of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) Comrade Mujahidul Islam Selim, labour leader Comrade Manjurul Ahsan Khan, Executive President of the organisation Sadekur Rahman Shamim, its General Secretary Kazi Ruhul Amin and its Joint General Secretary Joly Talukder. President of the organisation Advocate Montu Ghosh presided over the programme. The organisation also brought out a black flag procession in the city in favour of their demands.

Different organisations including Equitybd, Forum of Environment Journalist, Bangladesh and Unnayan Dhara Trust organised a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club in the city recently. In the programme the leaders of organisations urged the government to be vocal on climate migrant issues in the coming UN High-Level Meeting on “Refugees and Migrants” scheduled to be held on September 19 next in New York.
They urged the government to proceed with an international negotiation strategies focusing the climate induced migrant issue in the meeting likely to be attended by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The government is needed to rethink and have plans to integrate all ministries with a common focus on climate induced displacement, they told. The function was addressed, among others, by Mostafa Kamal Akand, Networking Coordinator of EquityBD, Quamrul Islam Chowdhury, President of Forum of Environment Journalist, Bangladesh (FEJB), Kawser Rahman of Bangladesh Climate Change Journalist Forum (BCJF), Aminur Rasul Babul of Unnayan Dhara Trust and Waliur Rahaman from WARBE Development Foundation.
