A discussion marking 124th birth anniversary of the founder of Bangladesh Awami League and spiritual son of democracy Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy organised jointly by Jatiya Ganotantrik League and Jatiya Swadhinata Party was held at the Suhrawardy’s mazar premises in the city on Thursday. In the programme the speakers said Suhrawardy was the leader for establishing rights of the people. They demanded of the government to observe September 8 as the Day of Democracy. The event was addressed, among others, by historian Sirajuddin Ahmed, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof Dr Akhtaruzzaman, Awami League leader MA Karim, President of Jatiya Ganotantrik League MA Jalil, Secretary General of Jatiya Swadhinata Party Mizanur Rahman Miju, General Secretary of Awami Muktijoddha Projanmo League Advocate Rokonuddin Pathan and President of Muktijoddha Palli Society Alamgir Sheikh. President of Jatiya Swadhinata Party Moazzem Hossain Khan Majlish presided over the function.

A discussion on ‘Sharing Event on Women in Factories an Initiative Model’ organised by CARE Bangladesh was held at CIRDAP auditorium in the city. State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Huq Chunnu was present as the chief guest. While speaking Chunnu said the government is working to bring the workers of garment factories and other private organisations under the cover of provident fund.”The government is in a firm stand to realize money from factory owners for the labour fund,” he said. The
minister said, the situation has changed following his initiatives. He mentioned that the fund has increased to Taka 172 crore at present from Taka 45 crore only in 2012. Considering the future of the private sector workers, the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will not make any comprise over the issue of provident fund, he said. Wal-Mart Global Sourcing Director Manish Asrani and CARE Bangladesh Country Director Jamie Tarsi also spoke on the occasion, among others.
