Bangladesh Students’ Union
A rally organised on the occasion of 31st conference of Bangladesh Students’ Union (BSU), Dhaka University Sangsad was held at the foot of Aparajeya Bangla of Dhaka University on Wednesday. In the rally the speakers demanded of the authority concerned to take necessary steps to meet its seven point demands including ensuring of democratic environment in all universities by holding students’ union election including election of Dhaka University Central Students Union (DUCSU). They also demanded immediate cancellation of anti-people Rampal Power Plant Project to save the Sundarbans. The speakers also called upon the students to be united to meet their demands. The rally was addressed, among others, by Prof Dr Shafiuddin Ahmed, General Secretary of the organisation Tuhin Kanti Das, Central President of the union Laki Akhtar, former President of BSU Hasan Tarek, Central Vice-President Abu Tarek Sohel, Central General Secretary GM Gilani Shuva and its Organising Secretary Sumom Sengupta. President of the union, Dhaka University Sangsad Liton Nandi presided over the programme.
Jano Udyog
A workshop on ‘Climate Change, Environment and Journalism’ jointly organised by Jano Udyog, Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) and Institute of Environment and Development (IED) was held recently at Sagor-Runi auditorium of DRU in the city’s Segunbagicha. In the workshop the speakers called upon journalists to play an important role in tackling the impacts of climate change and attaining sustainable development goals.
They also
suggested holding training programmes for journalists to enhance their efficiency to work in the field of climate and environment. Speakers also urged journalists to play an active role for the preservation and sustainable use of marine resources to ensure sustainable development and making water and sanitation available for all. The function was addressed, among others, by Executive Director of Jano Udyog and Professor of Dhaka University Anthropology Department Dr. HK Arefin, climate journalist Kawser Rahman, DRU President Jamal Uddin and its General Secretary Razu Ahmed.
