British Council
A-three member British Council (BC) delegation led by its outgoing Deputy Director Mr. Matt Pusey called on UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan at the latter’s office yesterday. Other members of delegation include Mr. Jim Scarth, New Deputy Director, BC and Mr. Md. Towhidur Rahman, Head of International Higher Education (IHE), Bangladesh and Regional Manager, South Asia Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan, BC. During the meeting they observed that more and more academic and research collaboration among the higher educational institutions of Bangladesh and UK are needed for expansion, enhancement and internationalization of higher education. Various aspects of higher education including leadership training, curriculum development and teaching-learning came up for discussion. UGC Chairman said that University Grants Commission of Bangladesh always believes in enhancement, expansion and internationalization of higher education for this the Commission has been relentlessly working. UGC Members Professor Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Professor Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain and Professor Dr. M. Shah Nowaz Ali were present during the meeting.
Women Chamber of Commerce & Industry
Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BWCCI) organised a national level workshop on “Prospects of natural fiber based product and the closing ceremony of the project” under Bangladesh INSPIRED programme funded by the Ministry of Industries, GoB and the European Union at Ivy Rahman Auditorium, Bangladesh Mohila Samity in the city yesterday. Amir Hossain Amu, MP, Minister, Ministry of Industries was present as Chief Guest, while Mario Ronconi, Minister Counsellor and Head of Cooperation, Delegation of the European Union to Bangladesh was present as the Guest of Honour and Shushen Chandra Das, Project Director, Bangladesh INSPIRED and Additional Secretary, Ministry of Industries and. Sirajul Islam, Director, Buro Bangladesh attended the occasion as distinguished guests. Ms. Selima Ahmad, President, BWCCI chaired the programme. Various stakeholders including representatives from government and non-government organizations, development partners, business organizations, general members and directors of BWCCI, project participants as well as women entrepreneurs were also present and actively participated in the event.
Daffodil International University (DIU)
To create awareness on environment issues and to engage young groups in developmental work and to ensure safety of our environment, Daffodil International University (DIU) and Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF) of Germany are jointly going to organize ‘Green Freedom Short Film Competition and Cleaning Festival 2016’. The announcement of the programme was made at a ‘Meet the Press’ yesterday at the Conference Room of the National Press Club. Famous film maker Morshedul Islam, Dr. S.M. Mahbub Ul Haque Majumder, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Acting), DIU, Professor A. M.M. Hamidur Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Science, Prof Dr. Engr. A. K. M. Fazlul Hoque, Registrar, DIU, Dr. A.B.M. Kamal Pasha, Head, Dept. of Environmental Science and Disaster Management, Dr. Najmul Hossain, Country Representative, FNF, Bangladesh and Syed Mizanur Rahman, Director, Students’ Affairs, DIU were present at the conference. Morshedul Islam announced the inauguration of the competition and unveiled the logo. This was informed at the ‘Meet the Press’ that there will be basically two events, one is Short Film Competition and the second one is Cleaning Festival. Any student group comprising with maximum five people from college or university can participate in the both competitions.
