Bangladesh Nari Mukti Kendra
A rally organised by Bangladesh Nari Mukti Kendra was held in front of the National Museum in the city’s Shahbagh on Thursday. In the rally the speakers demanded exemplary punishment to those involved in sexually harassment to women in Pahela Boishakh celebration. They also demanded arrest and trial of the culprits involved in repression on children. The programme was addressed, among others, by General Secretary of the organisation Marjina Khatun, President of its Dhaka Mahanagar unit Sultana Akhtar Rubi, Organising Secretary of the central committee Monideepa Bhattachariya and General Secretaty of Rangpur District unit Nazmun Nahar Lipi. President of the organisation Seema Dutta presided over the event.
Sector Commanders’ Forum
Leaders of Sector Commanders’ Forum (SCF) distributed winter clothes and gift items among those widows of the martyrs of Kakarkandi Union Parishad under Nalitabari Upazila on Thursday at a function here, where the Pakistani occupation forces committed mass killings in 1971. The forum also renamed the memorial spot of the War of Liberation, ‘Sohagpur Bidhaba Palli’ as the ‘Bir Kanya Palli’ for the immense contributions and supreme sacrifices of those martyrs and their widows of the village. The function was addressed, among others, by President of SCF Maj Gen (Retd) KM Shafiullah, SCF leaders Lt Gen (Retd) Harun-ar-Rashid and Secretary General Haroon Habib.
Bangabandhu Smrity Foundation
Bangabandhu Smrity Foundation formed a human chain in front of the Jatiya Press Club on Thursday demanding trial of the perpetrators of distortion of history and demeaning Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque was present as the chief guest. While speaking the minister reiterated government’s plans to confiscate war criminals property and strip their voting rights off. He said that a process was also underway to enact a law soon with provisions of tough punitive actions against making derogatory remarks to demean the Liberation War as well as Bangabandhu.
