Bangladesh Students’ Union
A rally jointly organised by Bangladesh Students’ Union, Palton Thana Sangsad and Bangladesh Udichi Shilpi Goshthi, Shantinagar unit was formed in front of the city’s Willes Little Flower School and College. In the programme the speakers demanded trial of killer of Suraiya Akhter Risha, a student of class eight of the school. They also demanded exemplary punishment to the killer of Risha. The event was addressed, among others, by President of Bangladesh Students’ Union, Palton Thana Unit Billal Hossain, central leader of the Communist Party of Bangladesh Joly Talukder, its General Secretary Tridib Saha and General Secretary of Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigosthi, Shantinagar unit Aninda Saha Tultul. President of Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigosthi, Shantinagar unit Manjur Morshed presided over the function.
Osmani Smriti Parishad
A memorial meeting in observance of the 98th birth anniversary of General Muhammad Ataul Gani Osmani (MAG) Osmani, Commander-in-Chief of Mukti Bahini during 1971 Liberation War organised by Osmani Smriti Parishad was held on Thursday at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the city at 3 pm. In the function the speakers recalled the contribution of MAG Osmani in the glorious Liberation War in 1971. Finance Minister AMA Muhith joined the meeting as the chief guest. Gono Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain, Prof Jamilur Reza Choudhury, former Adviser to the Caretaker Government Rasheda K Chowdhury and former Bangladesh permanent representative to the United Nations Dr AK Abdul Momen, among others, addressed the programme. Besides, different political, social and cultural organisations chalked out elaborate programmes marking the day. Glowing tributes were paid to MAG Osmani by placing floral wreaths at his grave at Hazrat Shahjalal Darga Sharif in Sylhet and Fateha was also offered on the occasion.
