Workers Party
Leaders and activists of the Workers Party paid rich tributes to Phulbari martyrs, who laid down their lives during the protest on August 26, 2006 against a coal-mine project at Phulbari upazila under Dinajpur district. Party leaders Anisur Rahman Mallik, Kamrul Ahsan, Amirul Haque Amin, City unit leaders Abul Hossain and Kishor Roy, among others, placed wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar in the city on Friday seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of the martyrs marking Phulbari Day. On August 26, 2006, three people were killed and two hundred more injured as the then Bangladesh Rifles members opened fire on a demonstration against Phulbari coal-mine project by Asia Energy.
Bangabandhu Shiksha O Gabeshona Parishad
A prize-giving ceremony of an ‘Essay Competition’ for the students of school-college-university organised by Bangabandhu Shiksha O Gabeshona Parishad on the occasion of National Mourning Day commemorating the 41st martyrdom anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was held at the Jatiya Press Club on Friday. Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahabub-ul-Alam Hanif was present as the chief guest. While speaking Hanif said BNP is hatching conspiracy in many ways to fulfill the agenda of Pakistan after the assassination of Bangabandhu and most of his family members in the fateful night on August 15 in 1975. He called upon all to forge a unity to strengthen the hands of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to build up Sonar Bangla as dreamt by the Father of the Nation and root out all conspiracies of the anti-liberation forces. The function was attended, among others, by Parishad’s Founding General Secretary Prof Sirajul Haque Alo and Pro-Vice Chancellor of Kushtia Islamic University Prof Dr Shahinur Rahman. Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique presided over the event.
