A condolence meeting on death of its two members Brig Gen (Retd) Dr Mohammad Ismail Hossain and Kamrul Hasan Farid organised by Nagorik Oikya was held in the auditorium of Bangladesh Shishu Kalyan Parishad in the city’s Topkhana Road on Friday. The speakers discussed about the life of late duo. A Doa Mahfil conducted by Principal AKM Rejaul Haque Badal was held on the occasion for the salvation of the departed souls. The meeting was addressed, among others, by senior member of the organisation Iftekhar Ahmed Babu, Raju Ahmed Khan, Gazi Islam Uddin and Shahidullah Kaisar. The speakers expressed grave concern over the ailment of Mahmudur Rahman Manna. They also demanded proper treatment and release of Manna. Senior member of the central convening committee of the organisation Advocate Fazlul Haque Sarker presided over the event.

Director of Higher Degree Research Programme and Professor of the School of Law of the University of Western Sydney, Australia Dr. Daud Hassan called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique on Wednesday at the latter’s office of the University. Chairman of the Department of Oceanography of DU Prof. Dr. Md. Kawser Ahmed and some Ph D Scholars from University of Western Sydney were present on this occasion. During the meeting they discussed the possibilities of establishing “Ocean Governance Centre” at Dhaka University. They also discussed the possibilities of undertaking joint collaborative academic and research programs on oceanography by the University of Dhaka and University of Western Sydney, Australia. They agreed to sign a MoU in this regard soon.
Garments Employees Organisations
A rally organised by the Like Minded Garments Employees Organisations was held in front of the Jatiya Press Club on Friday. In the rally they demanded to press home their 7-point demands including 50% dearness allowance and introduction of rationing system. The rally was addressed, among others, by Member Secretary of Employees Security Forum Syed Sultan Uddin Ahmed, General Secretary of Samajtantrik Sramik Front Rajekuzzaman Ratan and General Secretary of Bangladesh Sangjukta Sramik Federation Mokaddem Hossain.
