A preparatory meeting for the conference of Dhaka Mahanagar Gonoforum was held at the office of Gonoforum in the city on Sunday. In the programme the speakers called upon all to build greater movement to eliminate militants and communal forces from the country for the greater interest of the nation. They also requested people from all walks of life to stand beside the flood affected people in different parts of the country. The meeting was addressed, among others, by General Secretary of Gonoforum Central Committee Mostofa Mohsin Montu, central leaders Mostak Ahmed, Saidur Rahman Sayeed, Mahiuddin Abdul Quader and Kazi Habib. The speakers called upon all to make the conference a success. Convenor of the preparatory committee for the conference Abul Hasnat presided over the function.

Truck Drivers Union
The triennial general meeting of Bangladesh Inter-District Truck Drivers Union under Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation (BRTWF) was held at Mohanagar Natyamancha in the city recently. Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan was present as the chief guest on the occasion. While speaking the minister called upon all to forge united movement against militancy, communalism and terrorism. ‘The sooner militancy is eliminated, the better is for the country,” he said. Shajahan Khan is also the executive president of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation. The function was addressed, among others, by General Secretary of BRTWF Osman Ali, President of Covered Van Driver Union President Rustam Ali and Organizing Secretary of BRTWF Mokhlesur Rahman. Shajahan said there should be honest and efficient leaders in labour politics. The minister also said the incidence of accidents on Dhaka-Aricha highway has come down remarkably because of effective steps taken by the present government. The number of river accidents has also reduced and the government has announced 2016 as river accident-free year, the minister added.
