Jatiya Ganotantrik League
A discussion on ’41st martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day-2016′ organised by Jatiya Ganotantrik League was held in the auditorium of Bangladesh Shishu Kalyan Parishad in the city’s Topkhana Road on Tuesday. Bangladesh National Alliance (BNA) Chairman Barrister Nazmul Huda was present as the chief guest. While speaking Huda said BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia started observing her fake birthday on August 15 after forging alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami. “Many of us had protested this (birthday celebration), but we could not stop it,” said the former BNP leader. He urged Begum Zia not to damage her image further by cutting cakes on the National Mourning Day. The programme was addressed, among others, by historian Sirajuddin Ahmed, Krishak Sramik Party Chairman Lion Salam Mahmud, Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote General Secretary Arun Sarkar Rana and Swadhinata Shikshak Parishad General Secretary Shajahan Alam Saju. President of the organisation MA Jalil presided over the function.
Bangladesh Jamiatul Ulama
A rally organised by Bangladesh Jamiatul Ulama, a platform of Islamic scholars was held at Uttarkhan in the city recently in protest against militancy and terrorism in the name of Islam. Islamic thinker Allama Farid Uddin was present as the chief guest. While speaking Farid said that a Muslim should sacrifice his own life to save a non-Muslim, if required. He denounced the killings of foreigners during the July 1 terror attack at Holey Artisan Bakery in the city’s Gulshan. The people in Muslim majority Bangladesh must consider the non-Muslims as their ‘honoured assets’ he added. He called upon all irrespective of caste and religion to build united resistance against extremism and communalism for the greater interest of the nation.
