Teachers, officers and employees of Bangladesh Open University brought out a rally and formed a human chain in front of its main gate yesterday. Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Dr. M A Mannan along with Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khondoker Mokaddem Hossain and Treasurer Prof. Dr. Md. Abu Taher led the rally. The rally and human chain organised by the university also held at its all Regional and Sub Regional offices at a time. Learners, teachers and University officers, employees of the field offices took part in the programme at their offices to enhance mass awareness against militancy and terrorism. Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Dr. M A Mannan conducted an oath ceremony at the end of the human chain and asked everybody to play role against militancy and terrorism from their own position, says a press release.

Dr. Khan Md. Sayeduzzaman has joined the United Hospital recently. He did his MBBS from Sher-e-Bangla Medical College in 1985 and later he attained post-graduation having MCPS in Medicine in 2002 and became specialized in Respiratory Medicine and Chest Diseases with post-doctoral MD (Chest Disease) in 2006 from NIDCH , says a press release .He has demonstrated expertise in managing problems of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease e.g. chronic bronchitis & emphysema like cough, shortness of breath, complications of smoking or air pollution. He also has long experience and proficiency in managing Airway Inflammatory Diseases & Asthma, Respiratory Tract & Lung Infections e.g. pneumonia. In his long three decades of career in government job, he served in NIDCH, Sir Salimullah Medical College & Hospital , Chittagong Medical College & Hospital(SBMCH) .Prior to joining United Hospital, he was Associate Professor of Respiratory Medicine in Tangail Medical College Hospital.

Climate change is a pressing issue in countries around the world. Nepal is one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change, with limited technical and financial capacity to adapt to its adverse impacts. In recent years, Nepal, like other countries in the Hindu Kush Himalayas, has witnessed an increasing number of extreme weather conditions and climate-related disasters, including catastrophic floods, droughts and landslides. Such disasters can have devastating effects on people, communities and ecosystems. The recent earthquake in Nepal and the subsequent landslides claimed numerous lives and caused massive damage to property. Those events are a reminder that mountains are acutely vulnerable to natural disasters. Given the predicted increase in extreme weather-related events, mountain communities are likely to face more pressure in the future. To support the role of the media in creating public awareness about climate change, ICIMOD is introducing a Small Story Grant for Nepali journalists for 2016.The primary goal of ICIMOD Small Story Grant 2016 initiated by the Knowledge Management and Communication (KMC) is to help strengthen the capacity of environmental journalists from Nepal.
