A discussion marking the inauguration of branding programme of the community clinic with a slogan ‘Community Clinic saves lives, a contribution of Sheikh Hasina’ organised by the Creative Media Limited, a non-government organisation, was held at the Ball Room of the Hotel Westin in the city’s Gulshan on Monday. Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim was present as the chief guest. While speaking the minister said people of Bangladesh have forged unity against terrorism and militancy overcoming fear. The minister said, ‘Community groups are the driving forces behind the community clinics, where the people subjected to abject poverty are getting healthcare services. But, the BNP-led government had closed down the community clinics after coming to power in 2001 as they did not believe in people’s welfare.’ The programme was addressed, among others, by Director General of the Health Directorate Prof Dr Deen Md Nurul Haque, Chairman of the Creative Media Limited Syed Borhan Kabir and its Programme Manager Ayon Debnath. Former Health Adviser to the Prime Minister and team leader of the community clinic branding programme Dr Syed Modasser Ali presided over the Function.
Bangladesh Chhatra League
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) recalled the Shamsunnahar Hall Tragedy of Dhaka University through candlelight procession on the campus on Saturday. BCL leaders led by its DU unit President Saiful Rahman Sohag and General Secretary SM Jakir Hossain, brought out the procession from the Central Shaheed Minar which ended in front of the hall.They demanded exemplary punishment to the perpetrators involved in that heinous attack. It may be mentioned that police and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) cadres swooped on female students at the hall on the dark night of July 23 in 2002.
