Cumilla Victorians
 Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Saturday inaugurated a colourful ‘Ananda Mela’ at Jamtoli under Lalmai upazila in Cumilla district marking the birth centenary celebration of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The ‘Ananda Mela’ was organized by Cumilla Victorians and Lalmai Talent Hunt Cricket Academy Chairperson Nafisa Kamal in a bid to cement the contributions of Father of the Nation before the new generation as well as uniting the people of Cumilla imbued with the spirit of the War of Liberation. As part of the celebrations, the Mujib Centenary Birth Celebration Victorians T-20 cricket tournament was organized with participation of some 18 cricket teams.
Faculty of Earth and Environmental Science, DU
A five-day International Conference on Earth and Environment Sciences and Technology (ICEEST) began at a city hotel on Saturday. Faculty of Earth and Environmental Science of Dhaka University organised the conference marking the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. President Md Abdul Hamid is expected to address the conference tomorrow (January 26) at the Intercontinental Hotel, said ASM Maksud Kamal, Dean of the faculty also president of Dhaka University Teachers Association (DUTA).
Education mister Dr Dipu Moni, chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) Professor Dr Kazi Shahidullah and Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman will be present on the second day of the conference.
A total of 39 sessions will be conducted throughout the conference in different venues of the university campus where around 430 researchers and academicians, including 80 from abroad will present their research papers.
Maksud Kamal said after the conference, suggestions titled ‘Dhaka Ghosona'(Dhaka Announcement), based on the recommendations of the researches will be provided to the policy makers of the country and the concerned ministry with an aim to build a bridge among the academicians and the policy makers.
The aim of the conference is to bring all leading academic scientists, researchers, and policymakers to share their skills and expertise to increase collaboration both in the scientific and development strategies using state-of-the-art technologies.
The conference is being proceeded based on the following sub themes – Blue economy: global and Bay of Bengal perspective, Search of geo resources: exploration, development, and management, disaster resilience and sustainability, environment perspective on population dynamic of population and regional development from environmental perspective, meteorology, weather forecasting and its application and delta processes and development.
The conference will help to improve the Geo-Resources development and overcome natural calamities with lots of tactic on the direction and flow of technology in the subsequent decades.
