Leaders of the National Garment Workers Federation paid rich tributes to those killed in Rana Plaza collapse by placing floral wreaths at the memorial built in front of Rana Plaza in Savar marking the 32nd founding anniversary of the federation. In the programme President of the federation Amirul Haque Amin, its General Secretary Shafia Parveen, central leaders Faruque Khan, Arifa Akhtar and General Secretary of Ekata Garments Sramik Federation Kamrul Hasan were present, among others. In the function Amirul called upon all garments employees to be united to meet its various demands including rights of trade union and safer working places.

Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal

A discussion meeting organised by Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) was held at the Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB), in the city on Thursday marking the 40th martyrdom anniversary of Colonel Abu Taher, Bir Uttam. Coordinator of the 14-Party Alliance and Health Minister Mohammad Nasim was present as the chief guest. While speaking Nasim said that Taher was a courageous man who stood up for his ideals. The programme was also addressed, among others, by Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon, former Industries Minister Dilip Barua, General Secretary of JSD Shirin Akhtar, journalist Haroon Habib, wife of Col Taher Lutfa Taher and former Vice-Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University and younger brother of Taher Dr Anwar Hossain. Referring to the current situation prevailing in the country, Nasim appealed for creation of anti-terror committees at all levels under the leadership of respected members of civil society and comprising pro-liberation political elements. He asked the organisers to be careful about possible ‘infiltrators’.
