Former Member of Parliament from Magura-1 constituency Major General (retd.) ATM Abdul Wahhab has been appointed as the Chairman of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society. President Md Abdul Hamid, also the President of the society as per the ‘Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Order, 1973’, appointed Wahab as the Chairman of the organisation for a term 3 years, said a press release on Thursday. The tenure of the previous chairman of the society Hafiz Ahmad Majumdar expired on 7 April, 2021 and the post became vacant. Major General (retd.) ATM Abdul Wahhab was born on December 29, 1946 in Tupipara village of Sreepur upazila of Magura district. He obtained post-graduate degree from Bangladesh University of Engineering (BUET) in 1986. He joined the Pakistan Army in 1968. He actively participated in the war of liberation and served as the sub-sector commander. After the independence of the country, he served in various important positions in the Bangladesh Army. He retired from the service in 2002 after 34 years of successful service in the Bangladesh Army He was elected as a Member of Parliament from Bangladesh Awami League in the 10th Jatiya Sangsad Election in 2015.
