Karmajibi Nari
A discussion on 23rd founding anniversary of ‘Karmajibi Nari’ a non-government organisation was held recently at the Begum Sufia Kamal auditorium at the National Museum in the city. Information Minister Hasanul Huq Inu was present as the chief guest. While speaking Inu said leaders who support militancy are enemies of women, democracy and religion.”Terrorist and communal elements never want empowerment of women,” “Work for all workers, including agricultural workers, but with dignity” was the theme of the program. The Minister highlighted the progress of women during the tenure of Sheikh Hasina. He mentioned the increase of maternal leave and the enhancement of the minimum wage beyond Taka 5,000 for four million women garments workers. He also accused the BNP chairperson of being involved with those who were against women’s progress, war criminals, terrorists and communalists. He said women have to identify who were against and who were for their progress when choosing the political leadership. He also criticized the BNP chairperson for expressing solidarity with the 13-point demand of the Hefazat-I-Islam. “She was also silent about raising the minimum wage of garments workers,” he said. Inu called upon the women to continue their struggle for empowerment but added that it would be fruitless without a simultaneous struggle against militancy. The function was presided by Shirin Akhter, MP.
