A virtual discussion on ‘River Protection and Development of Shipping Sector: From Bangabandhu to Sheikh Hasina’ organised by Green Club of Bangladesh, an environmental organisation was held in the city. In the programme held recently the speakers said many rivers and water bodies are defined as polluted, the initiatives that the government has taken to protect rivers, water bodies and the shipping sector, have been termed as accurate by experts, said a press release.They said, though some of initiatives have been completed timely but most of the projects are running very slow.They urged the people to raise their voice against the pollution and said the rivers of the country have to be protected from pollution and encroachment to save the mankind and biodiversity. The function was addressed, among others, by BUET Teachers’ Association President Prof Dr Mir Tariq Ali, Member Secretary of Unnayan Dhara Aminur Rasul Babul, Bangladesh Water Transport Workers Federation General Secretary Chowdhury Ashikul Alam and Adi Jamuna Banchao Andolon Convenor Prof Ashek-e-Elahi. Chairman of Naval, Road, Railway Protection National Committee Haji Mohammad Shaheed Mia presided over the event.
