Bangladesh Labour Welfare Foundation (BLF) so far has provided financial support of Taka 40 crore to nearly 9,500 distressed workers. This was formally revealed at the 22nd board meeting of the foundation at the secretariat, said a press release on Monday. After the inception of the BLF, a non-profit organization established under the concerned labour and employment ministry in 2001, workers of formal and non-formal sectors have been getting the emergency financial support, said State Minister for Labour and Employment Munnujan Sufian as she chaired the meeting. The board meeting of the BLF that usually provides financial support to families of the accidental deaths of labours and for treatment and higher educational support to their children, approved over Taka 3.56 crore for some 1285 workers. Earlier, the financial assistance over Taka 6.26 crore were distributed to some 1960 workers for the purpose of their treatment during the outbreak of Covid-19, according to an official press release. The fund has a deposit of Taka 477crore, which was received from 173 different national and multinational mills.Labour and Employment Secretary KM Abdus Salam and Additional Secretary and BLF’s Director General Dr Molla Jalal Uddin, among others, attended the meeting.
