Leaders of Bangladesh Mobile Phone Manufacturers’Association (BMPMA) have placed a set of demands before the government, including providing financial support and soft term loans to its member factories, to offset the shock of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). In a letter sent to Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal signed recently by BMPMA President Ruhul Alam Al Mahbub and General Secretary Jakaria Shahid, the association urged the Finance Minister to provide financial support as like the Package 5 of the Stimulus Package announced recently by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to give salaries and allowances of workers of the concerned industries for the next six months (April-September) this year. The association also demanded of the government to exempt the utility bills of the member’s closed down factories for the next six months. It may be mentioned that a total of nine mobile phone factories have so far been set up in the country and they are producing import-substitute products and thus meeting the local demand.
