Awami Hawkers’ LeagueA discussion on ‘Historic Mujibnagar Day’ organized by Awami Hawkers’ League was held recently at Dhaka Reporters Unity in the city’s Segunbagicha. Publicity and Publication Affairs Secretary of ruling Awami League Dr Hasan Mahmud was present as the chief guest. While addressing Hasan alleged that BNP and some foreigners have been hatching conspiracy against garment industry. “Some of our foreign friends came up with many assurances for providing assistance to the victims of Rana Plaza building collapse but they didn’t fulfil even one of their commitments,” he said. President of the organisation SM Zakaria Hanif presided over the discussion. It was also addressed, among others, by Senior Vice-President MA Sadek and General Secretary Md Zayed Ali. In a rebuttal to the remarks of some BNP leaders that the affected victims of Rana Plaza building collapse were not rehabilitated, he said, “Such remarks do not suit the leaders of that party which did not take part in rehabilitation of the affected workers.”The Awami League leader said, “The government started extending assistance within one hour of the Rana Plaza building collapse.
