The opening ceremony of Final round of the 10th National Undergraduate Mathematics Olympiad 2018 (NUMO) was held on Saturday in front of BUET Central Auditorium premises organised by Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in co-operation with Bangladesh Mathematical Society (BMS) with the financial support from the Title Sponsor A. F. Mujibur Rahman Foundation. Prof. Dr. Md. Rafique Ullah, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, BUET inaugurated the event as Chief Guest. Special guests and eminent mathematicians spoke at the opening ceremony which ended with a grand rally that marched around the compact campus of BUET. The written test of the NUMO 2018 was conducted . The final round of the 10th National Undergraduate Mathematics Olympiad (NUMO 18) was held on December 6 in the Department of Mathematics, BUET, Dhaka. The Mathematics Olympiad provides a perfect platform to promote and recognize excellence in the subject matter. Enthusiastic students pursuing an undergraduate course in Mathematics or related subject in Science, Engineering were eligible to participate in the NUMO18. Prof Dr Md. Rafique Ullah, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, BUET was present as chief guest and handed over certificates, crests, cash prizes among the top ten winners. Among the special guests, Prof. Munibur Rahman Chowdhury, Convener, National Undergraduate Mathematics Olympiad Committee (NUMOC); Mr. M. Alam, Trustee, A. F. Mujibur Rahman Foundation; Prof. Amulya Chandra Mandal- Secretary, Bangladesh Mathematical Society, Prof. Dr. M. Anwar Hossain, Co-Convener, NUMOC, Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Hakim Khan, member of the EC of BMS, Prof. Dr. Md. Manirul Alam Sarker, Member-Secretary-NUMOC; Prof. Dr. Mohammed Forhad Uddin, Secretary, organizing committee of the final round of NUMO 2018 spoke on the occasion, says a press release.

University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan placed floral wreaths at the graveyard of Bir Shreshtha Captain Mohiuddin Jahangir at Sonamasjid in Chapainawabganj recently, says a press release. Prof M Abdus Sobhan, Vice-Chancellor, Professor Choudhury M Zakaria, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dr. A.K. Shamsuddoha, Director, Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Rajshahi University accompanied the UGC Chairman. He placed wreaths at the graveyard of Mohiuddin Jahangir for seeking eternal peace of the departed soul and offered Jumma prayers at Sonamasjid Mohiuddin Jahangir is one of the seven Bir Shreshtha of 1971 Liberation War. Chapainawabganj was freed from the clutches of Pakistani occupation forces under the valiant leadership of Captain Mohiuddin Jahangir on 14 December 1971.
