Debate for Democracy
A debate competition titled “Jukti Aloy Dekhi” for the visually impaired students organised by Debate for Democracy was held at Bangladesh Film Developmemt Corporation (BFDC) in the city’s Tejgaon. Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam BSc was present as the chief guest in the programme held recently. While speaking Nurul said the government is working for the well-being of the people with differently able. “The physically challenged people are not burden of state. They should be given equal facilities like normal ones,” he added. The minister said, “The people with differently able are more sincere than normal people in their workplaces. So, disabled people can make better contribution to the society, if they are given necessary facilities to unlock their inner talent.” He laid emphasis on changing mindset of the society as well as family to ensure their involvement in the mainstream of development. Visually impaired students of Chittagong University and Eden Women College took part in the function. The event was also attended, among others, by Chairman of the organisation Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiron, Prof Abu Mohammad Rois and other professionals.
