A seminar on ‘Socioeconomic Development of Dalit Women in Bangladesh and the National Budget’ organised by Bangladesh Dalit Women Federation (BDWF) was held in the city’s CIRDAP auditorium. Noted human rights activist Dr Hamida Hossain was present as the chief guest in the programme held recently. While speaking Hamida Hossain demanded a separate allocation in the national budget for the socioeconomic development of the country’s dalit women. “Separate allocation should be made in the budget for the socioeconomic development of dalit women to achieve the target of sustainable development,” she added. Hamida also demanded reserved seat for dalit women in parliament. The function was also addressed, among others, by Ganotantrik Budget Andolan President Dr Protima Paul Majumder and Bangladesh Dalit and Excluded Rights Movement (BDERM) Chief Executive Zakir Hossain. President of the organisation Moni Rani Das presided over the event.
