Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Sunday emphasized on enhancing women engagement in agriculture for sustainable progress of the country. “It would be easier to attain sustainable development in the country, if we could involve women in agriculture,” she said. The speaker was speaking at an annual conference-2018 of Bangladesh Agriculture Economy Society at Bangladesh Agriculture Research Council auditorium in the city.Chief Coordinator for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Affairs in the Prime Minister’s Office M Abul Kalam Azad was present as the special guest with planning commission member and Bangladesh Agriculture Economy Society President Professor Dr Shamsul Alam in the chair. Dr Chaudhury urged to give proper recognition to the women who are playing role in developing the country.
Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments
On the occasion of National Day on Occupational Safety and Health , Government of Bangladesh has awarded 10 apparel companies for maintaining high safety and workers’ health standards in their factories . State Minister of the Ministry of Labour and Employment Mujibul Haque handed over the ‘Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Good Practice Award’ to representatives from Wisdom Attires, Fakir Fashion, Knit Concern, Hop Lun Apparels, Square Fashion, Snowtex Outwear, Ecotext, Tarasima Apparels, Viyellatex and AKH Eco Apparels at a ceremony held at the Krishibid Institute in the city on SaturdayThe Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Ms Afroza Khan said, “Our government believes that a safe and healthy workforce is the pillar of sustainable development. The Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE) under the Ministry of Labour and Employment carries out health and safety inspection in factories and industries in Bangladesh. High Commissioner of Canada in Bangladesh Benoit Préfontaine also spoke at the event. He said, “On National OSH Day, we remember those who have lost their lives or been injured in workplace accidents. General Secretary of Jatiyo Sromik League, Shirajul Islam spoke at the event as the worker representative.
