A meeting organized jointly by National Coordination Committee on Workers’ Education (NCCWE) and Industrial Bangladesh Council (IBC) was held at the CIRDAP auditorium in the city’s Topkhana Road on Wednesday. Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu was present as the chief guest. While speaking Inu said that the incumbent government had taken effective steps to improve industrial environment, particularly in the apparel sector. He said, “Because of the government’s labour-friendly policies women could work freely in the work place. To maintain this harmonious atmosphere coordination between owners and workers is necessary.” Highlighting the role of improved training to increase labour productivity, he said, “If development was to remain uninterrupted there was no alternative to increased labour productivity.” Inu said the interests of both owners and workers need to be protected. Owners should not concentrate on profits alone, they have to consider the workers’ interest as well. President of the Jatiya Sramik League Shukkur Mahmud presided over the function.
Bangladesh Sramik Federation
The biennial council of Bangladesh Sramik Federation was held in the auditorium of Bangladesh Shishu Kalyan Parishad in the city’s Topkhana Road. In the programme held recently the speakers demanded free trade union rights and declaration of minimum wage board for the workers. They also demanded safe workplace for employees specially women and amendment of labour law. The function was addressed, among others, by Joint Coordinator of Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad Naimul Ahsan Jewel, General Secretary of Bangladesh Sanjukta Sramik Federation Mokaddem Hossain, Vice-President of Bangladesh Swadhinata Party Abdul Gafur Miah and Convenor of Samajtantrik Front Hamidul Haque. President of the federation Golam Sattar presided over the event.
