University Grants Commission (UGC)
A day-long workshop on ‘UGC Digital Library User Training’ was held at UGC Auditorium yesterday. University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh in association with Wiley, an online based publisher organized the professional training programme for the librarians of public and private universities and some national level organizations. Prof Abdul Mannna, Chairman, UGC, was present as Chief Guest. With Prof Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain, Member, UGC, in the chair, Dr. Md. Khaled, Secretary, UGC delivered the address of welcome. Md. Abdullah Al Hasan Chowdhury, Additional Secretary (University), Ministry of Education and Dr. Gauranga Chandra Mahanta ndc, Project Director (Additional Secretary), Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project, were the Special Guests on the occasion. Professor Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Professor Dr. Dil Afroza Begum, Members, UGC and Divisional Heads, UGC, among others, were present. Prof Mannan, in his speech, said that Digital Library enhances knowledge, skills and efficiency of teachers, students and reserchers at higher educational institutions. He said the demand of e-resources is growing in the country. “Digital Library can play a significant role for creating new knowledge to produce skilled manpower.’ Professor Mannan also said Bangladesh needs skilled manpower and innovation for the sake of the country’s progress.Prof Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain, in his speech, underscored the need for proper use of e-content. “UGC Digital Library is playing its due role in excellency of country’s tertiary level education and research.” At present, 90 organizations including 86 universities of the country are subscribing over 35,000 high-quality scholarly e-resources through UGC digital library. A total of 14 e-publishers including Wiley are providing e-resources to the subscribers.
MJL Bangladesh Limited
The Department of Mechanical Engineering of International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) organised an in-campus day long training on Fundamentals of Lubrication delivered by MJL Bangladesh Limited professionals recently. The programme was sponsored jointly by MJL Bangladesh Limited and IUBAT Society of Mechanical Engineering (ISME). M. Mukul Hossain,CEO, MJL Bangladesh Ltd was the Chief Guest and the Pro-VC of IUBAT Brigadier General Dr. Md. Zahid Hossain presided over the programme. The Dean of the College of Engineering and Technology (CEAT) Professor Dr. Md. Monirul Islam, Chair of Mechanical Engineering Department Professor Dr. Engr A Z A Saifullah and Coordinator Professor Abdul Wadud of IUBAT were present and addressed the assembled audience comprising senior students and alumni of the department. The interactive training session was delivered by Nirupam Mustafi, Manager of Industrial Lubricants Division of MJL Bangladesh Limited. The convener of the programme was Dr Muammer Din Arif and assisting members were Dr Sazzad Bin Sharif and Arif Md Shahed Iqbal from the Mechanical Engineering Department.
