Terming human trafficking as an illegal trade, speakers at a workshop on Friday said it posed a great risk to our economic development as the victims failed to contribute to the country’s economy. Large number of our people, mostly women and children, are being trafficked in the country every year. Being trapped in the illegal and inhuman activity, the victims failed to make any economic contribution, they said. They called for raising massive awareness across the country for preventing the crime. They also stressed on making the Human Trafficking Prevention Authority operational. They made the remarks while addressing the workshop on prevention of child trafficking at Rajdhani Girls’ High School at Darus Salam at Mirpur in the city. Chaired by Adv Hasna Begum, executive committee member of Bangladesh National Women Lawyers’ Association (BNWLA), Rezaul Hossain, Acting President of managing committee of the school, Shamsul Islam, Vice President of Darus Salam Unit Awami League, among others, spoke on the occasion. Teachers, students, religious leaders and people from other professions participated in the programme. As part of Prevention of Child Trafficking trough Strengthening Community and Networking (PCTSCN) Project, BNWLA organised the programme to raise awareness for preventing child trafficking, says a press release.

A discussion meeting was held at the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) on the occasion of 98th birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children’s Day on Saturday. The meeting was presided over by VC IUBAT Prof Dr Abdur Rob, Registrar Prof Dr Abdul Jabar, Prof Dr Prof. Mujibur Rahman Khan, Prof Lutfar Rahman, Prof Mohammad Shahjahan, Dr Khan Mohammad Tariqul Islam and Assistant Prof Chandan Kumar Sarker. In the president’s address, Prof Rob said that everyone will have to know the biography of Bangabandhu and he must have patriot like Bangabandhu. Prof Sarker presented a short biography on Bangabandhu . Deans, directors, teachers, officers, employees and students of different faculty at the university were present in the discussion. On this occasion, poetry recitation, song and dance was performed in the presence of children, says ca press release.
