Bangladesh Harijon Oikya Parishad
A discussion on ‘Development Policy and Special Priority of Harijon Community’ organized by Bangladesh Harijon Oikya Parishad was held recently in the auditorium of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) in the city marking the ‘International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination’.
Social Welfare Minister Syed Mohsin Ali was present as the chief guest. While speaking Mohsin said the government would take necessary steps to bring Harijon community under the social safety net for their mainstreaming.
This disadvantaged community should be provided with basic social services for their wellbeing, he said.
President of the parishad Krisna Lal presided over the discussion while Chairman of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Dr Mizanur Rahman spoke as the special guest. It was also addressed, among others, by Director of Manusher Jonno Foundation Rina Roy and Secretary General Nirmol Chandra Das.
Mohsin Ali said it is the duty of the state to ensure basis services for all communities in line with the constitution. He linked the livelihood development of the Harijon community with the overall progress of the country.
Dr Mizanur Rahman said rights of all will have to be ensured for establishing a Bangladesh free from all kinds of vices such as discrimination and poverty.
The National Human Rights Commission will take necessary legal measures to ensure the rights of the Harijon community, he said.
