A discussion on ‘Independence: Expectation and Achievement’ organised by Barenya Foundation was held in the city’s Segunbagicha on Friday. Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, MP was present as the chief guest. While speaking Shajahan termed the state of Pakistan as a venomous snake saying that it has been hatching conspiracy against Bangladesh. The minister said Pakistan is trying to make Bangladesh as a failed state and provoking BNP to destroy the achievements of Bangladesh.He urged all to raise strong protests against the conspiracy of Pakistan. Referring to the ongoing trial of war criminals, Shajahan said, ‘Some 293 Pakistani war criminals, who were involved in looting, raping and anti-humanitarian activities during the 1971 Liberation War would be tried.’ The event was addressed, among others, by Senior Lawyer Barrister Amir-Ul-Islam, Mahbub Uddin Bir Pratik and president of Sonali Bank Employees Association Mohamamd Kamaluddin.
Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigoshthi
A two-day Udichi Satyen Sen Ganasangeet festival organised by Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigoshthi was kicked off at the Central Shaheed Minar in the city on Saturday aiming to awaken the people through the tune of music. Noted folk singer Gourango Dutta inaugurated the festival as the chief guest. Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigoshthi, a prestigious cultural organisation of the country, organised the festival to raise consciousness among the mass people against communal activities.
