A rally organised by Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Central Women Cell was held in front of Jatiya Press Club in the city on Wednesday. In the rally the speakers demanded exemplary punishment to the killer(s) of Sohagi Jahan Tonu, a student of Comilla Government Victoria College. They also called upon all to build united movement to protect women in this male-dominated society. The event was addressed, among others, by CPB President Comrade Mujahidul Islam Selim, CPB central leader Joly Talukdar and Vice-President of Udichi Shilpigoshthi Prof Badiur Rahman. Presidium member of the organisation Laxmi Chakravarty presided over the programme.
Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad
The biennial conference of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad (BPUP) will be held at the Melangan of Dhakeshwari National Temple in the city today. Maj Gen (Retd) CR Dutta (Bir Uttam) will inaugurate the conference at 10 am through his words of blessings. Minister for Public Administration and General Secretary of the ruling Awami League Syed Ashraful Islam, MP, will attend the inaugural session as the chief guest. Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry Suranjit Sengupta, MP will inaugurate the Puja Celebration Council of Bangladesh in the function. State Minister for Youth and Sports Biren Shikdar, MP, State Minister for Fisheries and Animal Resources Narayan Chandra Chanda, MP, Haji Md Selim, MP and Pankaj Debnath, MP will attend the function as the special guests. A meeting of BPUP executive committee held at Dhakeswari National Temple on Wednesday reviewed overall preparations of the conference. BPUP President Kajol Debnath presided over the meeting.
