A discussion marking National Flag Day organised by Jatiya Ganotantrik League was held in the auditorium of Bangladesh Shishu Kalyan Parishad in the city’s Topkhana Road on Thursday. In the programme the speakers said that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman pledged for establishing independent Bangladesh through hoisting National Flag at his residence in the city’s 32, Dhanmondi on March 23 in 1971. The event was addressed, among others, by Presidium Member of Bangladesh Awami League and former minister Satish Chandra Roy, teacher of Social Science Department of Dhaka University Prof Dr Mashiur Rahman and Publicity Secretary of Bangabandhu Parishad Matiur Rahman Laltu. President of the organisation MA Jalil presided over the discussion.

A workshop on ‘Employment of Disabled People: Role of Corporate Society and Mass Media’ organised by charity Leonard Cheshire Disability (LCD), Bangladesh was held in the conference room of National Institute of Local Government in the city’s Agargaon on Wednesday. Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu was present as the chief guest. While speaking Inu called upon mass media and corporate bodies to come forward in aid of the physically challenged people to help them get specialized education and proper employment to cope with the society. “Disabled people are asset of society. Society would be benefited more if the disabled people can go at par with the other segments of the society,” he said. Programme Manager of South Asian Region at LCD Shivaram S Deshpande joined the function as special guest with LCD, Bangladesh president and noted economist Abul Barkat in the chair.
