DU Cultural Society
A day-long “Basanta Utsab” (Spring festival) organised by Dhaka University Cultural Society was held at Dhaka University’s Mall Chattar on Tuesday with spectacular presentation of traditional music Bhawaiya, Bhatiali and Gambhira, music-drama, drama and recitation of poems. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the programme as the chief guest. While speaking Arefin said “Culture is our strength… the Bangali nation had waged all democratic movements including Language Movement as well as Independence Movement imbued with the cultural spirit,”. Noted actor Aly Zaker also spoke, among others, on the occasion. While speaking Zaker hoped that such cultural practices would help free the country from different degenerate culture. Students from different departments of the university presented different traditional forms of music and drama. Famous singers Kiran Chandra Roy and Bappa Majumder performed on the occasion.
Mujib Sena Parishad
A discussion on 97th birthday of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman organised by Mujib Sena Parishad was held in the auditorium of the Jatiya Press Club in the city on Tuesday. Dhaka City Awami League General Secretary and Relief and Disaster Management Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya (Bir Bikram) was present as the chief guest. While speaking Maya said none will be spared if he or she is found involved in pushing the government to an awkward situation through conspiracy.
