Marking International Women’s Day, President and General Secretary of Bangladesh Sanjukta Garments Sramik Federation Ali Reza Haider and Moin Uddin Mondol respectively in a statement expressed grave concern over the killing of children and repression on women. They called upon all to work unitedly to ensure rights of women and children. They urged government to give exemplary punishment to those who are involved in killing children and women.
Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists
A discussion on ‘Women in Media’ organised on the occasion of International Women’s Day by a faction of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) was held at Jatiya Press Club in the city on Tuesday. Prime Minister’s Media Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury was present as the chief guest. While speaking Sobhan said ill forces are out to halt the continuation of women empowerment and democratic practice. He said the country’s women are playing an important role to the development of every sector including socio-economy, art & culture and journalism. The programme was also addressed, among others, by BFUJ Secretary General Omar Faruk, JPC Managing Committee member Azizul Islam Bhuiyan and Nari Sangbadik Kendra President Nasimun Ara Minu. DUJ President Shaban Mahmood presided over the discussion.
Bangladesh Sramik Federation
A female workers’ rally organised by Bangladesh Sramik Federation was held in front of Jatiya Press Club on Tuesday on the occasion of International Women’s Day. In the rally the speakers demanded for removal of disparity between male and female. They called upon all working-class people to be united to establish rights of female workers through movement. They also called upon the government and owners of all garments, mills and factories to create congenial environment in all workplaces. The event was addressed, among others, by General Secretary of the federation AAM Foiz Hossain, Organising Secretary Rafiqul Islam Pathik, Gulshan Ara Dalim, Sathi Roy and Zannatul Ferdous. Coordinator of the federation, female committee Kamrun Nahar presided over the programme.
