Sandwip Development Forum
A discussion organised by Sandwip Development Forum marking its silver jubilee was held in the city’s Sultanganj, Rayer Bazar on Friday. Eminent economist and former caretaker government adviser Dr Akbar Ali Khan was present as the chief guest. While speaking Akbar appreciated the contribution of Sandwip to the national economy.”The development of Sandwip means development of Bangladesh,” he added. The event was addressed, among others, by Senior Secretary of Defence Ministry Kazi Habibul Awal, Planning Commission Member Abdul Mannan and Lt. Gen. Chowdhury Hassan. President of the forum Saleha Begum presided over the programme. Fourteen eminent persons including Dr Akbar Ali Khan, Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, Dr Kabir Chowdhury, Engineer AK Azad and Prof. Hosne Ara Azad were awarded citations in the function for their outstanding contribution in their respective fields.
Awami Swechchhasebok League
A view exchange meeting organised by Awami Swechchhasebak League was held at the political office of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the city’s Dhanmondi on Friday. Awami League presidium member and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader was present as the chief guest. While speaking quader said, “Apparently, there is no opponent of Awami League in politics now. Those who are supposed to be opponents have been suffering from different kinds of fear and panic. They (BNP) have turned out to be a party of complainants.” The meeting was also addressed, among others, by AL Joint General Secretary Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Organising Secretaries BM Mozammel Haque and Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, AL Central Working Committee members Sujit Roy Nandi and Aminul Islam Amin and Awami Swechchhasebak League President Advocate Md Abu Kowsar.
