A discussion meeting on 17th martyrdom anniversary of President of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal Kazi Aref Ahmed organised by Kazi Aref Foundation was held on Tuesday in the auditorium of Bangladesh Shishu Kalyan Parishad in the city’s Topkhana Road. Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu was present as the chief guest. While speaking Inu said, ‘A renowned student leader of the ’60s, Aref was one of the few who had dreamed of an independent country even when it was a part of Pakistan. His contribution will always be remembered with love and respect by the nation. He will live forever in our hearts’. The programme was addressed, among others, by historian Siraj Uddin Ahmed, Awami League leader Advocate Balaram Poddar, president of the foundation Kazi Masud Ahmed, president of Jatiya Ganotantrik League MA Jalil and president of Bangladesh Online Activists Forum Kabir Chowdhury Tanmoy. Vice-president of the organisation Kazi Hena Masud presided over the event.

President and General Secretary of Communist Party of Bangladesh Comrade Mujahidul Islam Selim and Comrade Syed Abu Zafor Ahmed respectively in a statement urged the Election Commission to hold the union council election in free and fair atmosphere. They also called upon other leaders and activists of the party to be united against irregularities in the ensuing union council election.
