Bangladesher Samyabadi Dal
A discussion in observance of Shaheed Asad Day organised by Bangladesher Samyabadi Dal was held at its office in the city’s Topkhana Road on Thursday. Chief of the organisation Comrade Dilip Barua was present as the chief guest on the occasion. While addressing Dilip said Comrade Asad believed in the ideology of Karl Marx and Lenin. The then autocratic ruler Ayub-Monaem was fell down through dedication of Asad. We have to go ahead depending on his ideology, Dilip added. Convenor of the organisation’s city unit Comrade Babul Biswas presided over the programme.
Bangladesh Students’ Union
A rally organised by Bangladesh Students Union was held at Shahbag in the city. In the rally the speakers demanded exemplary punishment to those schools which will be involved in taking extra fees from the students. They also expressed solidarity with the movement of guardians and students in protest against taking extra fees by the school authorities. They called upon all to forge greater movement against education business in the schools.
Non Communicable Disease Forum (NCDF)
The Non Communicable Disease forum (NCDF) and Eminence Associates for Social Development jointly organised a meeting for the formation of Members of Parliament for NCD Forum, Bangladesh at the conference hall of the National Parliament yesterday. The participants have discussed the scopes and opportunities of establishing such forum in Bangladesh. It was a stakeholders’ gathering of member of parliament, doctors ,professor , researchers, officials, and influential media to discuss on the situation of Non Communicable Diseases the scopes of the members of the parliament to form a common platform such as a forum to contribute through evidence based policy and advocacy strategies formation and implementation, opportunities of contributing significantly in the prevention and management of non communicable diseases locally, regionally and globally. The meeting was presided by Prof. Dr. Shah Munir Hossain, Advisor, Food and Agricultural Organization. Prof. Dr.A.F.M. Ruhal Haq MP was present as special guest while Dr. Habibe Millat MP as Chief Guest . Dr. Shamim Hayder Talukder, Founder and Chief Executive of Eminence gave a presentation introducing action plan for NCDF Bangladesh in the SDGs era.
BRAC University
As part of its thrust to enhance its internationalisation programmes , BRAC University started its new year by hosting well known scholars from the University of California, Berkeley. Prof Allan Smith, a global expert on public health who has done excellent works in West Bengal and Bangladesh on Arsenic contamination of drinking water conducted an intensive workshop on “Arsenic contamination in drinking water in Bangladesh; present and future,” recently. Prof Allan Smith was hosted by BU’s s climate change center (C3ER) and the JPG School of Public Health.
The workshop for the future in respect of the arsenic crisis was discussed rigorously at Professor Allan Smith’s workshop at which Prof Ainun Nishat and Kumar Murshid , Director Strategy and international programmes of BU also spoke. The workshop was informative and interactive and focused on new areas of research on the effects on pregnant mothers of arsenic contamination, says a press release.
Dhaka University
Director of Higher Degree Research Programme and Professor of the School of Law of the University of Western Sydney, Australia Dr. Daud Hassan called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique on Wednesday at the latter’s office of the University. Chairman of the Department of Oceanography of DU Prof. Dr. Md. Kawser Ahmed and some Ph D Scholars from University of Western Sydney were present on this occasion. During the meeting they discussed the possibilities of establishing “Ocean Governance Centre” at Dhaka University. They also discussed the possibilities of undertaking joint collaborative academic and research programs on oceanography by the University of Dhaka and University of Western Sydney, Australia. They agreed to sign a MoU in this regard soon.
