A discussion on ‘Country’s current politics’ organized by Bangabandhu Palli Chikitshak Academy was held on Saturday at Dhaka Reporters Unity in the city’s Segunbagicha. Publicity and Publication Affairs secretary of the ruling Awami League Dr Hasan Mahmud was present as the chief guest. While addressing Hasan called upon the political parties, not alone the ruling party, to play their due role in creating a conducive atmosphere for talks so that they could resolve the internal problems on their own.
Adviser of the Academy Chitta Ranjan Das presided over the Discussion. It was also addressed, among others, by Dhaka City Awami League (AL) vice-president Faezuddin Miah, Krishak League leader Humayun Kabir Mizi and president of the Academy Dr Bachchu Shikdar.
The AL leader said BNP has not been walking on the road for political solution of the problems of the country severing relations, till now, with militant-terrorist organisation Jamaat-Shibir.
Bitterly criticising the recent remarks of BNP leaders including acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tarique Rahman, the AL leader said, “Tarique Rahman is not a symbol of independence and sovereignty of the country but a symbol of terrorism, corruption and bomb attacks. He (Tarique Rahman) was the mastermind behind the August 21 grenade attack of 2004.”
Dr Hasan Mahmud said the BNP leadership has made mockery with the nation by terming Tarique Rahman as the symbol of independence and sovereignty of the country. Turning to Bikalpa Dhara president Prof AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury’s proposal to BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia for holding discussion with the government, the AL leader said, “Talks can be held with her (Begum Zia). But prior to that she should have to seek apology for celebrating her birthday on the National Mourning Day on August 15 and she will have to admit the present government as a legitimate administration and she will have to sever relations with Jamaat.”
