A discussion organized by the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) in observance of the 30th death anniversary of Mohammad Tajul Islam was held recently at its office of Muktibhaban in the city’s Purana Palton.Tajul, a former leader of Bangladesh Chhatra
Union, joined the Adamjee Jute Mills as a general employee after completing his graduation in 1974. He was killed on March 1, 1984 when Jatiya Party activists of the than autocrat ruler Hussein Muhammad Ershad opened fire on a procession brought out by Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad (Skop) to realise five-point demand of the then 11 workers’ organisations. Leaders of CPB, other left parties and their front organisations, including the Workers’ Party of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal and Tajul’s wife Nasima Islam placed wreaths at a temporary monument of the slain labour leader in front of the CPB central office.
In a brief rally, CPB president Mujahidul Islam Selim demanded trial of autocrat ruler HM Ershad allegedly an accused for ordering to kill many organizers, including Tajul, during the democratic movement.
Among others, CPB general secretary Syed Abu Jafar Ahmed, BSD general secretary Khalequzzaman and workers party general secretary Anisur Rahman also spoke.
