A seminar on autism organised by the Jatiya Mohila Sangstha was held at its auditorium in the city on Monday. Secretary of Women and Children’s Welfare Affairs Ministry, Nasima Begum, NDC was present at the seminar as the chief guest. While speaking Nasima said that autistic children prefer good food and nice clothes. “If they are given proper care they too can contribute productively to the society,” she added. She said that there were three things that characterized autism: They avoid eye contact, they repeat acts and they don’t socialize”. She also said that there can be three types of autism: Short, medium and long term. Autism could be mild, moderate and severe and the level of care would vary, accordingly, she added.
