A Dhaka court on Tuesday issued arrest warrant against wife and son of convicted BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury and another one in a case filed for their alleged involvement in the leakage of the draft verdict of the court in connection with the trial of the BNP stalwart for his crime against humanity during the war of liberation of 1971.
Dhaka’s Cyber Tribunal Judge KM Shamsul Alam passed the order on Monday. Special Public Prosecutor of the tribunal Md Nazrul Islam Shamim told newsmen that the court also directed the concerned OC’s of Dhanmondi and Satkhira Police Stations to submit the compliance reports on October 30.
The court also asked the jail authorities to produce four other accused, who are in jail custody, on the fixed date, he added. On completion of investigation about the much-talked-about leakage of the Verdict , DB Inspector Mohammad Shahjahan and also the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case submitted the charge sheet to the Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s (CMM) Court on August 28. On October 12, the CMM Court transferred the case to the concerned Cyber Tribunal of Dhaka for quick trial.
The accused persons are Salauddin Quader Chowdhury’s wife Farhat Quader Chowdhury, son Hummam Quader Chowdhury, his manager Mahbubul Ahsan, his lawyer Barrister AKM Fakhrul Islam, Fakhrul’s junior Mehedi Hasan, International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) employees-Nayan Ali and Faruk Hossain.
Of the accused, Chowdhuty’s wife and son and Mehedi Hassan are on the run while other four are in the jail. The IO made 25 people witnesses of the case. The charge says that the accused leaked part of the draft verdict of the tribunal and it was uploaded on the websites to make the war crimes trial controversial and questionable. The verdict’s copy was sent abroad through e-mail and it was uploaded on different websites there.
