The 121st birth anniversary of Poet Jibanananda Das was observed in Barishal with various programmes organised by different socio-cultural-academic organisation stressing on opening Jibanananda Museum and study and preservation of his memories on Monday.
Activists of Jatiya Kobita Parishad Barishal branch paid floral tribute at his mural arranged discussion meeting at the Auditorium of Jibanananda Memorial Hall at ancestral residence of the poet on Monday morning.
Besides three day- long programmes to observe 121st birth anniversary of Poet Jibanananda Das has been arranged at his working place Brojo Mohun College campus of his ancestral city Barishal.
Uttoron Sangskritik Sangathan, a cultural-literary organisation of the college, was organiser of the festival and Prof Dr. Golam Kibriya, vice-principal of the college, flying banner inaugurated the programmes of the festival on Sunday.
The festival was open from 9:00 AM-9:00 PM with different stalls including book fair life and works of the poet and showcasing native culture of the Bengali life and tradition.
Bangla department of Barishal University on Monday also arranged discussion on life and achievement of the poet, his influence on Bangla language and literature, at the Kirtankhola Auditorium of BU.
Among others it was attended by Prof. Aniruddhya Kahali of Bangla Department of Jahangirnagor University, as chief discussant.
Recitation of poems, cultural functions, essay writing and painting competition also arranged on occasion of the birth anniversary of the poet in these programmes.
Speakers and participants of the programmes demanded preservation, implementation of the Dhansiri River eco- park project and excavation of Dhansiri River, establishing museum, memorials and sculptures of the poet in places connected with his life, works and memories.
They also stressed for more study and research on life, works, ideology and influence of the poet on Bangla language and literature.
Born on February 17, 1899, Jibanananda Das is arguably the most influential romantic poet of the post-Tagore era. He died in a road accident on October 22, 1954 in Kolkata.
