BSS, Dhaka :
Awami League (AL) Acting General Secretary Mahbub-Ul Alam Hanif said none but the court can release BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia from jail.
“There is no scope of freeing Begum Zia from the jail without legal procedure . . . Any threat of BNP like paper tiger will never bring any benefit,” he said this on Wednesday while speaking at a discussion on the occasion of the 100th birthday of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Azimpur here.
Hanif added: “The people of the country cannot understand, why BNP threatens to wage movement instead of following legal procedures… The people did not forget the killing of innocent people by hurling petrol bombs as they did not respond to BNP’s movement.”
Dhaka South City Corporation’s 26 no ward organised the discussion at Azimpur Community Centre with local ward council Hasibur Rahman Manik in the chair. Parveen Sikder, MP, and AL leader Omar Ali and Minhaj Uddin Mintu, among others, spoke on the occasion.
Referring to BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s threat to
free Khaleda Zia through launching agitation, he said BNP is an
individualism-orientated party as they have no programme except the demand
for freeing Khaleda Zia and her son only.
Hanif said Khaleda is now in jail on charge of corruption while her son
remains hiding and people would not take any responsibility of doing movement
to free them.
“People even don’t want to see their faces at all,” he observed.
The senior AL leader also called upon BNP not to push the country towards
the destruction as countrymen want progress and developed life.
“Please don’t ruin the dream of people,” he said, urging the BNP to think
about the masses not only their benefits only.
