News Desk :
With only around 122,486 doses left in stock, Bangladesh is slowly but surely running out of the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines.
Till now 12 million doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine have arrived in the country from the Serum Institute of India and 10,077,514 doses have been administered since the commencement of the countrywide vaccination program.
This information was obtained from the vaccination related press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services on Tuesday.
According to the Health Services Division, 5,820,015 people have taken the first dose of the vaccine and 4,257,499 people have taken the second dose. On Tuesday, 3,973 people were given the second dose of the vaccine.
According to the data sent by the Health Services Division, out of the 5,820,015 people who took the first dose, more than 1,400,000 people are in a crisis for the second dose.
All of them need to be given a second dose of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine because the World Health Organization (WHO) has not yet made a decision on administering two doses of Covid-19 vaccine from different companies.
Since the beginning of the vaccination program on February 7, vaccination activities have been going on every day from 8:30am to 2:30pm.
However, administering the first dose has been halted by DGHS since April 26 due to the vaccine crisis and registration for the vaccine has been closed since May 2.
