The Industries Ministry on Thursday unveiled the online service for registration of patents, designs and trademarks side by side other services, including intellectual properties.
Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu inaugurated the online service of the Department of Patent, Design and Trademarks (DPDT) as chief guest at a function in city’s BIAM Foundation auditorium, said an official handout.
Industries Secretary Mohammad Abdullha addressed the function as special guest with DPDT Registrar Md Sanowar Hossain in the chair.
Representative of Prime Minister’s Office A2I Project Md Luthfur Rahman and DPDT Deputy Registrar Mohiuddin Al Faruq, among others, also spoke in the function. Amu said knowledge-based economy and industrialization are must to build a developed Bangladesh.
He said, in the National Industry Policy-2016, particular importance has been given to protect new innovation and intellectual property.
The function was informed that the DPDT had received applications for 10,258 patents, 25,151 designs and 2,39,264 trademarks from 1972 to December 2017.
