The online Eid shopping has increased manifold since the beginning of Ramzan, as people prefer to buy products from online platforms to avoid visiting crowded places and shopping malls amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
Traditionally, people rarely think any festival like Eid without new dress. As the Eid-ul-Fitr is knocking at the door, people have become desperate to shop for themselves and their family members, even in the midst of pandemic.
The online platform’s contribution to helping people to get their favourite clothing and lifestyle products for the festival has been monumental and the buyers’ confidence is growing on e-commerce faster.
The fashion and lifestyle retailers said the online shopping rates have increased exponentially just ahead the Eid as the number of order has gone up to manifold than that of the normal time.
Almost all the country’s renowned fashion and lifestyle brands are offering a wide range of products – from elegant Lawns, panjabis and kids’ stylish clothing options to sporty polos, t-shirts, fashion tops and much more through their own websites.
Ashraful Alam, CEO of Aarong, told The New Nation, “Aarong had been working to strengthen its e-commerce business by revamping its Website and Apps since last year.”
“We have also restructured and strengthen our e-commerce team. Over the year, we could achieve our customer’s trust and confidence and grew by 450 per cent over last year,” he said.
“During the tough time, many people are using internet to shop staying at their homes. Considering the situation, we have made online shopping quite accessible for people across the country with our online platform,” Hadi S A Chowdhury, Head of Retail Operation of Yellow, told The New Nation.
“As one of the most renowned brands, YELLOW’s exclusive style options truly uphold the trendy yet sophisticated brand image created by the company,” he said.
He further said that the products are being availed by people from all over the country and is currently delivering orders inside Dhaka within 1 business day and orders outside the capital are being delivered within 3-5 business days, free of any delivery charges.
“The number of orders received in the YELLOW website has tripled from the regular order quantity,” he added.
Iftekhar Mallick, Head of Marketing of Bata Shoe, said that Bata’s online sales ahead of Eid have doubled than what it did in the last two years as the online shopping is gaining popularity among the people.
About the people’s confidence, he said, “Some common allegations are colour, size matching and on time delivery from the customers. Removing the crisis, we have installed video in our website to show the right way of measuring.”
Shahin Ahmed, CEO of Anjans, said that the ongoing pandemic, heat weather and lack of adequate transport facilities are the key factors of increasing the online sales.
SM Nazer Hossain, Vice President of Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB), said the sector is rising potentially in Bangladesh but consumers are suffering too.
“This shift to online have tested many companies’ ability to be agile and successfully scale their business to meet these increased shopper demands,” he added.
